Not to jump on the Target bandwagon or anything but this article indicates that the CEO of Target and his wife each gave the maximum contribution allowable by FEC law to none other than Congresswoman Michele Bachmann.
Do what you will with this information. I haven’t decided yet.
Most disturbing, from the petition:
In recent weeks it was disclosed that Target Corporation had given $150,000 to a Minnesota political action committee that is funding candidates with ties to extremely anti-gay groups. The group in question that Target is funding, Minnesota Forward, has used that money to support a candidate named Tom Emmer.
Mr. Emmer has close ties to a group in Minnesota, You Can Run But You Cannot Hide, that advocates violence toward gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people.
I’m honestly not concerned with the original link, because frankly if we had to reject every company with a Republican CEO we’d all be living in straw huts in the woods and foraging for berries. Cara’s link is much more serious, because You Can Run But You Cannot Hide is fucking scary. From Right Wing Watch:
The leaders of You Can Run But You Cannot Hide Intl., Inc., a hard rock ministry that holds Christian assemblies in public schools around the Midwest, said that locking up gays and lesbians in prison is the “right” and “moral” thing to do. A week earlier, the group said that countries instituting the death penalty for homosexuality are “more moral” than Christians in the United States.
That is absolutely unacceptable.
God damn son of a bitch. I waited my whole life to live near a Target, and now I live one block - ONE!!!111 - away from a Target, and they’re donating money to Michelle Bachmann. Now where the fuck am I supposed to buy towels and nightgowns and sports bras and dog food all in one go? Thanks a lot, Target.
